September/October 2009
  NMRA, Columbus, OH Sept 4-6

With just four weeks since the last NMRA race at Z-Max, many of the heads-up points battles are becoming clearer, however, several will most likely come down to the final pass of the season.

In the wheels-in-the-air Real Street action, both Tim Matherly and Jim Breese put their ProCharger supercharger power to good use, qualifying number two and three respectively. With the entire class fighting traction issues, Matherly and Breese squared off against each other in the semifinal round. This time, it was Matherly tooking the win with a 9.57 to Breese's 9.65. In the final round, Matherly and Bruce Hemminger clocked one for the ages when the scoreboard lit with identical 9.53's. However, it was a .013 reaction time advantage that gave Hemminger the win. But with yet another final round appearance, Matherly has pretty much clinched the 2009 Drag Radial Championship: but it won't be official until the next race.

In the hotly contested Drag Radial class, here too, the championship battle appears to be coming down to a battle between two ProCharger supercharger equipped racers. Jason Lee has had an outstanding and consistent season, with the Canadian competitor, Enzo Pecchini coming on strong. At Columbus, Pecchini qualified in the number two slot, with Lee right on his bumper in the number three positions. Both racers worked their way through the ultra-competitive eliminations and with a semi-final by run, Lee wanted lane choice, and laid down an impressive 8.07 blast to earn it against Pecchini. Once again, a ProCharger vs. ProCharger final round saw Lee take the starting line advantage, with Pecchini getting loose and having to lift, thus giving Lee his fourth win of the season. It appears the season championship in Drag Radial will be settled between two ProCharger-equipped racers and their teams!

In ProCharger Super Street Outlaw, John Urist once again proved he is the man to beat by powering his way to a 7.39 @ 192.33 mph pass. Continuing his impressive SSO performances, ProCharger-powered Johnny MacDonald was right behind Urist with a 7.44 @ 189 mph qualifying effort. Both of them took advantage of their ProCharger F-3-supplied power and consistency to march through eliminations, only to find themselves head-to-head in the finals. In yet another ProCharger vs. ProCharger matchup, perennial powerhouse and defending SSO champ Urist captured the win, increasing his points lead over MacDonald with just one race to go. Here again, its two ProCharged cars setting the pace for the season championship.

PSCA, Las Vegas, NV, Sept 4-6

After taking off the hot summer months of July and August, the Pacific Street Car Association racers got back to business at the Sept 4-6 race in Las Vegas.

In Outlaw 10.5 racing, Doug Sikora continued his impressive season; qualifying number two with a 6.96 @ 200 mph. Sikora won his first round match-up but lost in the second. With a couple races to go, Sikora and his big red ProCharger F-3R-equipped Mustang look like they will have a good shot at the class championship.

Defending PSCA Champion, Al Jimenez qualified his ProCharged big block Camaro in the number one spot in Outlaw Drag Radial with a 7.64 @ 186 mph effort. It's good to see Jimenez and his team hitting their defending champion stride, as he served notice with an outstanding 7.50 pass to win the Las Vegas round.

PSCA Wild Street racing saw two ProCharged-equipped racing brothers battling it out. Kevin Young qualified fourth with a 8.06 @ 179 mph., while his brother Jeff qualified seventh with a 8.34 @ 166 mph. As fate would have it, the two Camaro drivers met in the first round with Jeff coming out on top in their head-to-head race.

PSCA, Fontana, CA, Sept 18-20

Heading back to the Golden Bear State for their second race in September, Outlaw 10.5 racer Doug Sikora qualified fifth with a 7.00 @ 201 mph. Sikora made it all the way to the finals before losing. During eliminations, Sikora improved on his qualifying ETs and ran consistent 6.9's with his F-3 ProCharged Mustang. As a result of his consistency and yet another final round appearance, Sikora now has a firm grasp on the points lead and hopefully, the season championship.

Once again, Al Jimenez and his ProCharged Outlaw Drag Radial Camaro had a very strong event, running mid 7-second ETs and advanced into the semifinals.

Moving their sibling racing rivalry from Las Vegas to Fontana, ProCharged Camaro brothers, Jeff Young and Kevin Young once again put on a show in Wild Street. This time, it was Jeff qualifying his ProCharged 1985 Camaro number three with an 8.17 @ 176 mph, while Kevin put his ProCharged 1986 Camaro into the number five spot with an 8.54 @ 177 mph.

NMRA Finals, Bowling Green, KY, Oct 1-4

ProCharger Super Street Outlaw racing saw John Urist qualify with a 7.52 @ 194 mph, with second place Johnny MacDonald keeping the pressure on with a best of 7.46 @ 189 mph. With the two ProCharged Mustang pilots locked in a 1-2 points race, the season championship would be decided in the second round of eliminations. In a race that will go down in ProCharger history, Urist and MacMonald left together for what was a great race. But it was Urist powering to the win with an outstanding 7.36 pass for the win and clinching his fourth consecutive SSO championship. As if that wasn't enough, Urist then went on to win the event and in the process, laid down an amazing 7.31 @ 192 mph pass! Congratulations to John Urist and his time on their fourth consecutive and fifth SSO Championship! And also to Johnny MacDonald and his team on a season that saw them score their first event win and serve notice that they will be a force to be reckoned with in 2010.

Drag Radial: Enzo Pecchini ran great in qualifying with a 7.99 @ 177 mph, while Jason Lee clawed his way in with an 8.29 @ 174. Both ProCharger-equipped Mustang racers would also meet in the second round of eliminations with Lee running an 8.00 to take the win and thereby clinching his first NMRA Championship! Lee advanced all the way to the finals with a string of passes 7.9's @ 178 mph range, but came up short in the finals. Congratulations to Jason Lee and his entire team on their first NMRA Championship!

Real Street: Not to be outdone by his fellow ProCharger racers, points leader Tim Matherly qualified number one by running an incredible time of 9.47 @ 144 mph. By simply qualifying for the event, Matherly clinched his third Real Street Championship! As if that wasn't enough, Matherly then went on a tear, knocking down 9.40s all weekend to take the event win, too. Congratulations to Time Matherly, his family and the entire MV Performance team on their hard-fought championship.

NMCA, Memphis, TN, Oct 16-19

Defending NMCA Pro Street Champion, Mark Micke, brought one of his customers' cars down for the Memphis race weekend. But with cold, wind and rain playing havoc with qualifying, the entire field was off the pace, with Micke qualifying in sixth with a traction-limited 7.22 @ 194 mph. But, working hard and making good use of the consistency of his ProCharger-power, Micke advanced all the way to the finals before finishing as the runner up.

In Super Street 10.5W racing, perennial powerhouse Jim Blair came into Memphis with the season's points lead and only needed a good outing to secure the championship. Blair qualified his ProCharger F-3R-equipped Mustang in the number five spot with a 6.88 @ 197 mph. Blair then locked up the championship in the second round of eliminations and advanced into the finals. Congratulations to Jim Blair and his team on their outstanding, season-long commitment and Championship.

In Xtreme Street racing, points leader Chris Singleton went in to this event with the championship pretty much won, all he had to do was qualify his ProCharged Mustang. Never one to coast, Singleton qualified in the number one sport with a 7.98 pass, putting a huge exclamation point on his championship. Congratulations to Chris Singleton and his team on their first NMCA Championship in their first full season of racing!

PSCA Las Vegas, NV Oct. 16-18

Outlaw 10.5: Doug Sikora qualified number five with a 6.93 @ 200 mph out of his ProCharged Mustang and advanced into the finals. Having already secured a West Coast Hot Rod Association (WCHRA) Super Street Championship, Sikora now has his sights set on the PSCA Championship, too.

Wild Street: Jeff Young qualified his ProCharger-equipped 1985 Camaro third with a 7.95 @ 178 mph, while brother Kevin and his ProCharged Camaro qualified number fourth with a 7.97 @ 178 mph. Jeff made it to the semi’s while Kevin advanced all the way into the finals. If 2009 was any indication, next year should be very interesting for these two Idaho-based racers.
