NMCA: May 2nd - 4th @ Beech Bend Raceway Park
The NMCA event at Beech Bend Raceway saw another spectacular showing from ProCharger racers. The Pro Street class saw 2007 champ Jarod Wenrick and Mark Micke again shattering records. Micke qualified with a 6.31 @ 222 mph taking the number one position and breaking his own record! Wenrick ended up with a qualifying run of 6.35 @ 224 mph taking the number four spot and also resetting the 1/8th mile mph record with 184.75 mph! This marks the fastest 1/8th mile mph ever recorded for a centrifugal supercharger powered car. Wenrick and Micke met in the semi-finals where Micke took the win and ended up in the runner-up position for the event. This is the second NMCA event in a row where Mark Micke has reached the final round.
Mike Yedgarian, who was the first ProCharged racer in the six's last year on a 10.5W tire, debuted his new big block Chevy combination in the Super Street 10.5W class but unfortunately suffered mechanical problems. Not one to quit, Yedgarian pulled an all-nighter and completely changed his engine, transmission and rear-end combination just to make sure he made the first round of eliminations. This is a great example of the dedication and professionalism of ProCharger racers, we are represented by some of the best in the country and we are always proud to here of racers going the extra mile in situations like this.
This was Jim Blair's first NMCA event of the year and he came out swinging with a number two qualifying run of 7.05 @ 197.94 mph. Blair made it to the finals where he ended up with the runner-up position. After taking the SSO NMRA championship in 2004, Blair came over to NMCA in 2007 where he consistently led the points race and took home the 10.5W crown at the end of the season. As with Yedgarian and all of the other ProCharger racers, we have always been impressed with Blair's consistency and professionalism at the track.
Xtreme Street saw ProCharger racers Chuck Bartholme qualify in the number two position with an 8.03 @ 172.34 mph. Zoop Zellonis was also in attendance for his first race of the year. Zoop ran a 10.44 @ 100 mph in qualifying but came back and made it to the semi-finals with a best run of 8.09 @ 170 mph.
Hot Rod Pump Gas Drags: May 10th @ Memphis Motorosports Park
The Hot Rod Pump Gas Drags were held May 10th in Memphis, TN and ProCharger had an amazing showing. Jim Plimpton and his '89 T-bird began in the number three qualifying position. Jim's ProCharger supercharged and intercooled 572 cid Ford powered him to an event winning 8.53 @ 163.06 mph! Be sure to look for Jim on the Hot Rod Power Tour, there are rumors of him participating in the DynoMax Power to the Wheels competition this year.
  World Street Challenge 1: May 15th - 18th @ Gateway International Raceway
It was a beautiful weekend at the first World Street Challenge in St. Louis. The ProCharger events crew was there with our 53' rig and many ProCharged street machines on display. But the real action took place on the strip where ProCharger racers had another outstanding showing.
Jarod Wenrick and Jeff Dickey (driving Mark Micke's Camaro) participated in the Pro Street class to represent ProCharger against some of the top roots style blowers, nitrous racers, and turbo cars in the country. The Micke/Dickey team came into the race with the fastest ProCharged car in the country, but Wenrick took that crown with a record setting run of 6.29 in the last round of qualifying. This marked the first centrifugal supercharged car to break the 6.20's! The Micke/Dickey team was not satisfied with the loss of their record and took it back in the finals with a 6.25 @ 227.65 mph! This not only re-established the Micke/Dickey car as the fastest with a centrifugal supercharger but it also gained them the WSC1 Pro Mod title and a $35,000 payday.
Five ProCharger racers where on hand for the True 10.5 class. John Urist, AJ Powell, Travis Franklin, Phil Hines, and Mike Genovese where all battling for the $10,000 pot. At the end of the race John Urist came out on top with a win over Jarret Halfacre's turbo powered Mustang. John consistently ran in the 7.40's at over 190 mph all weekend!
The Drag Radial class saw Jason Lee with his self-contained ProCharger F-2 powered Mustang take the top qualifying spot with a blast of 7.70 @ 177 mph. This was done in a car with DOT tires and weighing well over 3500 lbs! Jason blasted through eliminations and ended up in the finals where he took the runner up honors.
Fun Ford Weekend: May 23rd - 25th @ No Problem Raceway
Travis Franklin made the haul to Bella Rose, LA and had a great showing in the ProCharger Renegade class. Franklin, running a SBF with an intercooled and self-contained F-3A-123, started by taking the number one qualifying position with an 8.00 ET and then went on to the finals where he took home the win and defended his 2007 championship with a run of 8.10 @ 174.55 mph! After Franklin's performance in the Fun Ford Weekend Street Renegade class of 2007, the entire field is anxious to see what he is able to do this year.
  Jim Summers, ProCharger Motorsports Director
Jim Summers, former automotive Super Street Champion and Pro 5.0 racer is still hard at work racing his in-shore powerboat during the 2008 season. May 31st-June 1st Summers took second place at a powerboat race in the SST120 class. Jim was also the number one qualifier for the event and led the race for 17 laps. As always, Summers continues to use his experience and passion for speed to support all of the ProCharged racers out there representing us on the track.
