The NMRA rolled into Florida in early March for their annual season opening event in the sunshine state.
Picking up right where he left of in 2009, defending Drag Radial Champion Jason Lee qualified his ProCharger F-3R-equipped Mustang number one with a 7.94 @ 180 mph. Enzo Pecchini qualified fifth in his ProCharger-supercharged Mustang with an 8.0 @ 176 mph, while fellow ProCharger racers Chad Doyle and Trace Meyer each qualifying with identical 8.17 @ 174 passes. With the ProCharger-rich field set, it was just a matter of time before the best racers rose to the top. Proving they are ready to pick up 2010 where they left off in 2009, the final was a ProCharger versus ProCharger race between Pecchini and Lee, with Lee taking the season-opening NMRA Drag Radial win.
In the wild Pro Outlaw 10.5W class, defending NMCA Super Street Champion, Jim Blair, brought his ProCharged Mustang to Bradenton for the NMCA show and qualified second with a 6.944 @ 191 mph. Fellow ProCharged Mustang racer, Dwayne James qualified forth with a 7.42 @ 181 mph.
In the wheels-in-the-air action that NMCA Real Street have become know for, ProCharger racers showed up ready to defend their 1st, 2nd, 4th finishing order from 2009. Defending Champion Tim Matherly qualified his ProCharger-equipped 2010 Mustang in sixth with an 11.97@ 121 mph, while teammates Dave Ginter qualified fourth with a 9.78 @ 140 and Jim Breese qualifying second with a 9.65 @ 140 mph. In an all-ProCharger semi-final round, Matherly and Breese lined up next to other, with Breese taking that win before advancing to and winning the final round as well. Congrats to Breese and his entire team on their outstanding start to the season.
It's quite fitting that in ProCharger Super Street Outlaw racing at Bradenton, five out of the nine cars in qualifying were ProCharger-equipped. Five-time and defending Super Street Outlaw Champion, John Urist led the way with a 7.29 @ 194 mph which was good enough to land him second in qualifying. John MacDonald qualified fourth with a 7.45 @ 194 mph, with newcomer, Andrew Demarco taking his ProCharger F-2 supercharged small block Ford into the seventh spot with a very respectable 7.76 @ 179 mph. Bradenton also saw the return of long-time ProCharger racers Phil Hines, who qualified his ProCharged Mustang in the fifth spot with a 7.62 @ 184 mph, along with Daniel Pachar running a Ford Mod motor and reverse ProCharger F-2 combination who qualified with a 7.85 @ 159 mph. When the tire smoke cleared, it was MacDonald powering his ProCharged Mustang to the Bradenton win and proving that he is ready to pickup 2010 where he left off in 2009, in the winner's circle and give Urist a run for the season.

Also making the trip to sunny Florida, the NMCA season-opening event was held at Bradenton Motorsports Park. In the grueling True Street racing, Vinny Fiore served notice that True Street cars can handle the mandatory 30-mile cruise and still lay down some outstanding passes. Powered by big block Chevrolet engine and equipped with a legendary ProCharger F-3R-139, Fiore tore through the competition, consistently running in the 7.60s and in winning the event, became the first NMCA True Street car to run in the 7's during three consecutive passes! Congratulations to Fiore and his crew for establishing this incredible benchmark at the very first event of the NMCA season.
Pro Street racing witness the debut of new Sullivan Brother's Racing Dodge Stratus driven by John Sullivan. Running a 521 cid BAE HEMI equipped with a ProCharger F-3R-139 supercharger, the team is well stocked for success with Mark Micke and his crew leading the way. Sorting out some of the new car issues, the Sullivan/Micke Stratus had a difficult time finding any traction on the Bradenton surface. Rumor has it that the team took the car back home and sorted out the chassis issues and has made numerous 1/8th mile test hits searching for hook and traction. In testing at NMCA-legal weight (2,600 lbs), the team has recorded a best ET of 4.04 @ over 180 mph. Could this be the first ProCharger-boosted car to break into the 5's in full 1/4-mile racing? Stay tuned...but don’t blink!
In Super Street 10.5W racing, defending champion Jim Blair qualified his ProCharger F-3R supercharged Mustang in the number two with a 6.88 @ 200 mph and advanced all the way to the finals.
Making a visit to NMCA's Xtreme Street action, defending NMRA Champion Jason Lee qualified his ProCharged Mustang seventh with an 8.20 @ 165 mph and advanced all the way to the semi-final round, while Mike Alwardt qualified his ProCharger F-1R equipped Mustang eleventh with a very respectable 8.44 @ 168 mph.
In Street Radial action, Dave Ginter qualified fifth with an 11.03 @ 139 mph, while Brad Schehr qualified second with an 8.86 @ 155 mph out of his F-1R ProCharged Fox body Mustang. Schehr fought his way through eliminations and advanced all the way to the final round.
