NMCA/NMRA 10.5W: Steve Summers was back for his second race with his gorgeous black 498 cubic inch big block Chevy, F3-135 powered 81' Camaro. The Summers team continue to show great improvements in their program. Steve qualified fourth with 7.08 @ 196 mph, unfortunately for Steve lost his first round match up. There is no doubt that Summers will be knocking down the six second barrier very soon!
NMRA SSO: Procharger had three racers on hand this weekend. Six-time champ John Urist, 2010 2nd overall points earner Johnny Macdonald, and longtime SSO standout Phil Hines. All three qualified solidly with Urist running a 7.31 @ 198 mph. Right behind John was Phil Hines running a 7.46 @ 188 mph. rounding out the three Procharger powered racers was Johnny MacDonald with a 7.48 @ 188. Going into eliminations on Sunday all three Procharger racers had high hopes. John Urist ran a career best time of 7.17 @ 200 mph, but lost due to a red light start. John MacDonald was not able to make the call for his round match up. That left Phil Hines as the lone gunman for Procharger. Hines shot down everyone on his side of the ladder and was once again in a final round. What was a highly anticipated final round match up ended up being a pedal fest between Hines and his opponent. Hines was the first to make it to the stripe and collected the win.
NMRA/NMCA X275: Jason Lee and the PTP crew were still fresh off their win in the season opener @ Bradenton, Fl. Lee qualified strong running a 7.82 @ only 159 mph which was good enough for second in qualifying. On the pass, Jason had some parts break on his rear end housing which sent him head on into the wall @ over 150 mph. Not discouraged, the PTP crew went to work and repaired the front end body damage, along with straightening the front sub frame and was ready for eliminations on Sunday. Jason yet again made it to final round, but the track was just not there. His F1R powered Mustang was just too much for the poor starting line track conditions and spun right out of the gate.
NMRA Real Street: Jim Breese and Tim Matherly were both in attendance for the second race of the season. Breese took the number two spot in qualifying running 9.70 @ 138mph. Tim Matherly on the other hand had some electrical issues that involved rewiring his car. Tim was able to stage and in the number six slot. It was not the boys' day when it came down to eliminations and both went out early.
NMCA Late Model EFI: Ricky Ellison and his Procharger powered Challenger qualified his 4,000lb monster on top of the field with a 10.03. Unfortunately Ricky was on the losing end of a double break out in his first round of eliminations that ended his day early.

Xtreme Drag Radial: Al Jimenez and the Muscle Motors Team brought their charcoal gray '72 Camaro with a big block Chevy using a F3R-135 to supply the 30 plus lbs of boost to propel them to the number two qualifying spot running 7.99 @ 193 mph. In the first round of eliminations, Jimenez laid down a great pass running a 7.38 @ 196 mph! Second round was more of the same with Al posting up a 7.41 @ 197 mph. The Jimenez/Muscle Motors crew continued their dominating performance all the way to the finals where they got the win.
Wild Street: The Young brothers were back in action with their F2 powered small block Chevy Camaros. Kevin qualified number two with a 7.79, while Jeff qualified number three with an 8.03. Kevin was able to get past his round opponent in the first round of eliminations by running a 7.81 @ 182 mph. His winning ways continued all the way to the final round. In the final round, Kevin ran his best pass of the day in his '86 Camaro with an outstanding 7.74 @ 182 mph, which was good enough for the win.

Outlaw Drag Radial
Wild Street: Kevin and Jeff Young made the haul from their home state of Idaho. Defending champion Kevin Young made his presence known ad he took the number one qualifying position with a 7.70 @ 180 mph. Not far behind him was brother Jeff with a 7.96 @ 180 mph which was good enough for the fifth spot. Going into the first round of eliminations Kevin was confident that he could better his qualifying et. Kevin ran a stout 7.69 @ 183 mph which would be low et for the event. Meanwhile on the other side of the ladder, Jeff ran into a traction limited lane and his day ended prematurely. Second round was not kind to Kevin as he too spun right out of the gate, which cost him a valuable round win.
Limited Street: Making his 2011 debut was Eric Aldrige and his mean little '72 ford Maverick with a 351 cu.in. small block Ford with the ever reliable F1C supplying the boost needed for this highly competitive class. Eric qualified number three with an 8.58 @ only 141 mph. Clearly there is more left in his combination. Aldrige looked good going into eliminations and improved his et and mph every round, including the finals. Eric ran best et of the event in the final round of eliminations were he needed the most. He tripped the beams with an impressive 8.26 @ 166 mph and collected the win!

Xtreme Street: Enzo Pecchini made the long the haul down from Canada and qualified in the number five slot running an impressive 7.95 @ 169 mph. "First in the 7's" Chuck Bartholme was back in action after updating his chassis and engine program and the results showed. Chuck came out of the gates with his guns blazing and qualified fourth with a 7.94 @ 169 mph. Going into eliminations the two Procharger powered machines were looking good, Enzo won his matchup running another 7.97 @ 167 mph. On the other side of the ladder, Chuck with his new found power spun right off the line which ended his day early. In round two Pecchini, who had been fighting some electrical "gremlins" all weekend, reared their ugly heads again and cost him a second round victory.
X275: Jason Lee is continuing his reputation as one of the toughest 275 racers in the country and current NMCA point's leader was on hand. Jason qualified with an unbelievable time of 7.61 @ 180 mph! On elimination's day Lee and the PTP crew were ready for battle. They rolled thru their side of the ladder and found themselves in a very familiar place, the finals. Unfortunately for Jason it was not his day, but he still walked out of MIR with a substantial points lead and is looking forward to his first NMCA championship.
Hemi Unlimited: NMCA was proud to bring the fans a special late model Hemi race which featured some of the fastest Third Gen Hemis on the planet. Representing Procharger with his powerful black Challenger was Hemi stand-out Rick Ellison. Ellison used his F1C powered 426 cubed Hemi and qualified number one with a 9.69 @ 139 mph. Ellison ran strong thru a tough field in eliminations and was ready for war going into the final round. But a potential final round win never materialized for Ricky, as he suffered breakage right off the line. The weekend was not a total lost, as Ellison walked out of Budd's Creek with the NMCA title of World's Fastest Challenger! |

NMRA/NMCA 10.5W: Steve Summers was back at it and had a strong qualifying effort. Summers ran a 7.16 @ 194 mph, which landed him in the sixth spot. In the first round of eliminations Steve stunned his opponent by running a career best et of 6.87 @ 204 mph. Not satisfied with that time the Summers camp decided to turn it up some a bit, but the starting line was in no shape to handle the power that the F3.
NMRA SSO: Procharger had a strong contention of racers all gunning for current point's leader Phil Hines. Hines qualified well but opened the door for John Urist to take the points lead back with an early exit in the first round. AJ Powell blew off the dust on his red and block fox bodied Mustang. AJ qualified good running in the 7.40's. John MacDonald qualified in the top half of the field with a 7.29 and won his first round match up in eliminations. John Urist qualified second running his quickest pass ever with a 7.12. Urist steam rolled thru the competition and made it to the final round. John didn't capture a win but he did lock up the number one spot in the points and is looking good for his seventh NMRA SSO championship!
NMCA/NMRA X275: Current point's leader in both series Jason Lee was hard at it this weekend. Lee landed in the second spot in qualifying running 7.61. Jason advanced easily over his opponent in the first round of eliminations running 7.63. During the second round of eliminations, track conditions proved to be a challenge, which caused Lee to spin and bow out early.
NMCA Xtreme Street: Xtreme Street standout Enzo Pecchini was back out and running good this weekend. Qualifying in the fourth spot with an 8.05, Pecchini was feeling good going into eliminations. Enzo easily dispatched his first two match- ups during eliminations, but his weekend was cut short in the semi-finals.
V. NMRA Real Street: Tim Matherly and Jim Breese were hard at it this weekend. Matherly claimed the second qualifying spot with a 9.39 @ 144 mph. Jim Breese took the fifth spot in qualifying with a strong effort of 9.53 @ 142 mph. The two would be matched up against each other for the first round of eliminations, with Tim coming out on top running a stout 9.41 to Breese's 9.53. Matherly made I to semi-finals where his day would end early due to a red light start.
NMCA/NMRA True Street: Tim Gehrs with his '82 Oldsmobile Cutlass with a F2 boosting his all Oldsmobile blow-thru carb power plant was on hand to do battle in the 44-car field. Running amongst a sea of Fords Gehrs put himself on top with a 9.52 average et after his 30 mile cruise, which was good enough to collect the win. |
