![]() |
For most of the drag race sanctioning bodies, August marks the start of the second half of the season. And with every passing month, ProCharger supercharger powered racers are still dominating their respective classes and leading the points in six different sanctioning bodies throughout the US and Canada. Starting the month of August, here are the ProCharger-equipped racers that are leading their respective classes and good luck to each of these racers and there teams as they finish out the season. 1) NMRA Super Street Outlaw: Johnny MacDonald

In the NMCA Xtreme Street, the recently formed Singleton/Lee team was back in action. They qualified with an 8.08 @ 170 mph, which put him in the number four spot on the qualifying ladder. Dave Roemer was also back in action with his ProCharger LSX supercharger powered Camaro. Dave is still trying to find the "sweet spot" in his new combination and is making great improvements. Due to the high temperatures the track was not in the greatest of shape all weekend. Singleton/Lee won their first round match-up. Going into the second round of eliminations the team made some chassis adjusts because of the ever-changing track conditions. Unfortunately their weekend ended early because of another bumper dragging wheel stand. In the NMCA's Street Radial racing, current points leader Brad Schehr was back at it racing to protect his points lead. Schehr used his ProCharger power to qualify in the number one position with an outstanding 8.82 @ 155 mph. Schehr then freight trained his way thru eliminations with his D-1 powered small block Ford taking him all the way to the finals. In the finals, Schehr ran another solid 8.88 @ 155 mph for the win and solidifying his point lead while bringing what would be his first NMCA championship another race closer. Go get'em Brad! Over in NMRA's ProCharger Super Street Outlaw racing, five-time and defending champion John Urist, along with Phil Hines and current point's leader Johnny Macdonald were on hand and ready to go to battle with their ProCharger-equipped Mustangs. During qualifying Hines suffered some electrical fuel injection gremlins that sidelined him for a bit, while MacDonald ran extremely strong, qualifying second with a 7.37 @ 192 mph. Urist was also running well with times in the 7.40's, which placed him third on the ladder. Despite competing at a significant weight disadvantage compared to the nitrous-equipped cars (nitrous 2650 lbs vs. ProCharger 3150 lbs) ProCharger F-3R supercharger equipped racers still powered their way through eliminations to set up yet another all-ProCharger final round. Again, it was an Urist versus MacDonald matchup, a true testament to the effort both these teams put in at the track week in and week out. When the scoreboards lit up on the big end of the track, MacDonald was the winner. With his hard-fought win at Z-Max, Macdonald takes his points lead to the next race. NMRA 10.5W: It is always good to have "lady luck" on your side. Despite having some early troubles, the Dwayne James and his crew showed their true colors and persevered. They were able to race their way into the finals where they came out with a runner-up finish while still running low seven-second elapse times with their ProCharger equipped Mustang. In NMRA Drag Radial racing, ProCharger-equipped racers are once again leading the way in this traction limited class. At Z-Max, ProCharger racers secured three of the top four spots in qualifying. As he has done numerous times over the past two years, defending class champion Jason Lee stunned the competition with the only seven second ET (7.98 @ 175 mph) during qualifying. In the number two position was fellow ProCharger racer Chad Doyle, who is on the comeback trail after taking some time off from racing and completely rebuilding his '93 Mustang GT. Even so, Doyle qualified with an impressive 8.08 @ 175 mph. In the fourth spot was the hard charging Canadian, Enzo Pechinni, who despite having some trouble getting a handle on the tricky track conditions, still managed to qualify with a very solid 8.16 @ 172 mph pass. In the first round of eliminations, Doyle ran his first seven second ET in NMRA competition with an incredible 7.99 @ 176. Unfortunately Doyle's day ended early in round two. Meanwhile Lee and his hard-working crew once again powered their way thru the field, scoring yet another Drag Radial win. Leaving Z-Max, Lee holds a firm grasps on first place in the points and could wrap up his second NMRA championship at the next stop in the NMRA tour. Congrats to Lee on his dominating performance and to Doyle and his crew on their first seven-second competition pass. NMRA Real Street: Tim Matherly along with Jim Breese were on hand, with Tim trying to repeat his championship performance from last year. The two teamates qualified strong, running deep into the nines at well over 140 mph (all that from just a little ole' P1SC-2)! In the semi finals, Tim won his match up but after clicking off the car and turning off onto the return road, one of his front wheels broke causing enough damage to the car that Tim was not able to make the call for the final round.

Donnie Walsh Jr made an appearance at this Friday night heads-up race. Walsh dusted off his trusty F3R-131 ProCharger, put it back on his 418 cubic inch small block Ford and came "loaded for bear", competing in the Run What Ya Brung (Pro Mod style) class. Going up against 526 cubic inch big blocks with big twin screw blowers and 800 cubic inches of nitrous-gulping big blocks, the competition was tuff. Walsh Jr. qualified second with a 4.15 @ 174 mph, not bad after taking a few years off from drag racing! Walsh then mowed down his big-inch competitors and found himself back in a familiar place, the finals. With his newly repainted Mustang, Walsh took it to his opponent in the next lane and ran an outstanding 4.10 @ 176 mph. Congratulations to the former NMRA Pro 5.0 champion on the win and welcome back! |

| Bonneville Speed Week, August 14-20 | ||
|
Bonneville Speed Week is the premier land-speed event in the world. Featuring both cars and motorcycles, ProCharger-equipped racers have been setting their sights on a wide assortment of class records for the past several years, including using ProCharger supercharger power to claim "World's Fastest Production Mustang" and "World's Fastest Camaro" records. In 2010, there was a new team taking to the salt with ProCharger power. Goldman+Shore Racing out of Payson, AZ used a ProCharger F-1R with a custom cog drive on their fully built GM straight-six engine in their 1930's style Ford roadster. When the salt had settled, drivers Clay Goldman and Gordon Foster had both made 200+ mph passes; 207.686 on the short course, and 220.953 mph on the long course, setting two class records in XXO/BFR. Congrats to the Goldman+Shore team on their outstanding performance and new class records. Another classic high boy-styled roadster, also equipped with a ProCharged Chevy straight-six and raced by Vince Norton, made a 202+ mph pass before being sidelined with mechanical issues. |

| HOT ROD Drag Week | ||
![]() ![]() |
HOT ROD magazine's annual Drag Week competition is a grueling, week-long adventure of drag racing combined with the challenging of driving those very same cars from one race track to the next. In 2007, Denny Terzich set the drag racing world on it's collective ear when he and driver Steve Roth used their ProCharger power to run in the 7's at each and every stop on Drag Week and won the Unlimited class, earning the title, Fastest Street Car in America. 2010 marks Terzich's return to the Drag Week competition, this time with a car built specifically for the event: Project Sick Seconds. As with any newly constructed car, Terzich and his team have been wrapping up the ultra-clean build and making some "test and tune" trips to the track to get everything sorted out prior to the event. As the name implies, this is one serious effort with one goal: run in the 6's with a car capable of being driving on the street and from one track to another! In addition to the ProRide's Sick Seconds Camaro, Mike Roy will also be tackling Drag Week in his ProCharger F-3R-139-equipped, 540-cid big block Chevy 1971 Monte Carlo. Roy is a veteran of the event, running solidly in the 8s in 2009 and is looking to defend his Drag Week ProStreet power adder championship. |

| ProCharger Race to the 3s | ||
![]() |
In drag racing, there are numerous "benchmark" achievements that racers and their teams look to achieve. One is to break into the three-second range in eighth-mile racing action. With just 660 feet from start to finish, a lot has to happen correctly, but highest on the list is power! Several ProCharger supercharger equipped racers have the 3s firmly in their sights: who will be the first ProCharger-equipped racer to break into the threes? Former NMCA ProStreet Champion Mark Micke and Carolina-based racer Ric Fleck are two of the leading candidates. Fleck has been out testing an "innovative" ProCharger combination and the results look promising for a three second run in the eight mile at a certain big time sanctioning body race close to his home state in the month of September. Stay tuned... |
