Making a trip north of the border, the wild and ferocious Super Street Outlaw 10.5 competitors joined up with the Canada’s Pro Modified Racing Association for an international gathering at Toronto Motorsports Park in Cayuga, Ontario. And what a wild Street Legal Shootout it was with past OSCA Super Street Class Champion Mike Yedgarian recording the first ever six second pass for a ProCharger-equipped 10.W car! Yedgarian took his ProCharger F-3 equipped GM big block 2000 Firebird and blistered the Canadian asphalt with a 6.98 @ 203 mph in route to the class win.
In a makeup from the rained out Peach State National Fun Ford Weekend, Street Renegade competitor Ron Cox fought his way to a runner-up finish, while posting a new personal best with a 7.72 @ 183.94 mph. The Fayetteville, GA racer runs a 1995 Cobra Mustang equipped with an intercooled F-2R ProCharger system.
The June 22nd – 24th Street Renegade class at the 9th Annual Old Dominion National Fun Ford Weekend at Virginia Motorsport Park was a veritable “all-star” event with many of the biggest names in the sport showing up to battle it out.
Word comes that Ric Fleck is preparing to make his first foray into ¼-mile competition with his radical Pro-Mod Camaro. Already running in the mid 4.2s in 1/8th mile blasts, Fleck is going to be uncorking his ’01 fuel-injected big block Chevy on the ¼-mile very soon. Running an F-3R ProCharger and a huge intercooler, Fleck is predicting mid-6 second, and 210+ mph passes when he does stay in it for 1,300 feet. Watch for updates here!
The June NMCA event at National Trails Raceway near Columbus, OH saw Xtreme Street racer Chuck Bartholme qualify his F-1R ProCharger-equipped Mustang number one with an 8.24 @ 171 mph before being eliminated. But thanks to their overall consistency, both Super Street racer Jim Blair and Bartholme left Ohio as the point leaders in their respective classes. And be sure the check out Chuck, as he was on the cover of a recent issue of “Fastest Street Car” magazine.
The searing Alabama heat made it anything but easy on the ORSCA competitors as they duked it out at the June 22nd -23rd event at Montgomery Motorsports Park. The big story for this race was the $10,000 payout in the TCI EZ Street class. In what looks to be one of the biggest rivalries in any class, David Reese and Shane Stack once again locked horns in the finals. Reese took home the top honors – and the prize money – with a winning 1/8th mile time of 5.28 @ 148 mph. Word also comes that Reese also won a stock suspension race in Florida that paid $10,000! Way to go, David! Leaving ‘Bama, Reese and his ProCharged Mustang were the ORSCA EZ Street points leader and record holder.
The National Street Car Association brought the party to Cecil County Dragway in Rising Sun, Maryland over June 23rd – 24th weekend. In the ultra-fast Pro Street competition, Jarod Wenrick qualified in the no. 4 slot with a 6.46 @ 223 mph and went on to the event win. This marks the first ever win in a Pro Street class for a Chevy-powered, ProCharger-equipped car. Way to go, Jarod!
The Ford faithful also had something to cheer about. In Super Street competition, Rick Fedorovich banged off consistent mid-7s all weekend to take the win in his methanol-burning 2001 Cobra Mustang equipped with small block Ford running an F-3 Reverse ProCharger. And in the ProCharger Limited Street Eliminations, Mike Modeste scored the win with low 8 second Et’s. What a weekend! Both Wenrick and Modeste left as the point leaders in their classes.
Jim Summers, ProCharger motorsports director, is a former Super Street champion and Pro 5.0 competitor in automotive racing, having run a best of 6.58 @ 215 mph. However, in the past, Jim raced in-shore powerboats and recently got the bug to race competitively again. Summers uses his passion for racing to balance the weekends he spends supporting ProCharged automotive racers, along with the rest of the ProCharger motorsports support team.
Even though Powerboat Superleague Formula 2 class rules don't allow him to run a supercharger, that doesn't keep him from running the ProCharger logo on his boat, or from showing the competition just how to carry the checkers! Congratulations to Jim on his Peoria win, which also placed him in the championship points lead for his class.
June 15th – 17th saw the National Mustang Racing Association make a visit to Milan Dragway in Michigan. First up, was a make up of the rain-delayed Georgia event. The time off didn’t seem to bother 5.0 Magazine Real Street racer, Tim Matherly. He won the make up event by consistently running in the 9’s @ 130+ mph. As if he didn’t have enough hardware to tote home to Statham, GA, Matherly then went on and scored a runner-up finish for the Milian event in his P1SC-2-equipped 2001 Bullitt Mustang, placing him 1st in points. In Super Street Outlaw, John Urist left Michigan 3rd in the points standings.
