The August 3rd-5th Fun Ford Weekend at the scenic Thunder Valley in Bristol, TN saw Travis Franklin and his F-2R-equippped small block Mustang claim the number 1 qualifying spot with a 7.74 @ 183 mph. Franklin went on to win the race and in the process, clinched the season-long Fun Ford championship by running 7.85 at more than 180 mph in the finals. Congratulations to Travis on his 2007 FFW Championship!
Then, at the Aug 18-19 event at Epping, New Hampshire, Franklin qualified number two and still managed to record his best ET of the season with a 7.63.
During August testing, ProCharger racer Ric Fleck and Team Flex made the switch from gas to methanol fuel in their Pro Mod Camaro. Running the same engine/ProCharger combination as before, Fleck recorded an outstanding 4.18 pass at more than 173 mph in the 1/8-mile. Running a ProCharger-equipped, fuel-injected big block Chevy, Fleck is looking to go even faster with the new fuel and tuning combination. Stay tuned for updates!
Knockin’ em down in NOPI, Phil Clemmons went on an August race winning rampage. At the August 4 – 5 event at New England Drag Way, Clemmons and his ProCharged small block Ford-equipped 1995 Mustang qualified number one and then won the event with low 8 second ETs @ more than 175 mph.
And then at the August 25 – 26 NOPI/NDRA event at Maryland International Raceway, Clemmons again swept the field in qualifying, won the event, and in the process, locked up the NDRA Pro Street Tire season championship. Congratulations to Phil on his 2007 NDRA Championship!
August was a busy month for the ProCharger powered NMRA racers. At the August 10 – 12 event at Atco Raceway, Super Street Outlaw points leader John Urist qualified his Mustang in the top spot with a 7.48 @ 193 mph. Of the 14 cars that qualified for the SSO field at Atco, six of them were ProCharger-equipped!
In Real Street action, Tim Matherly qualified number 1 with a 9.79 @ 137 mph and went on to post a runner up finish for the event, but left with a firm grip on the points lead for the season. In Drag Radial class, Chris Evans ran well in his carbureted Mustang, with his F-1R helping power him to an 8.30 @ 175 mph.
The August 30 – September 2 NMRA event was held at National Trail Raceway and saw Real Street competitor Tim Matherly qualify his ProCharger-equipped 2001 Mustang Bullitt in the number one spot with a 9.89 @ 136 mph. Matherly then went on to win the event with a 9.90 @ 136 mph. In other Real Street action, Jim Breese posted the top speed during qualifying with an outstanding run of 137.25 mph.
Also at National Trail, John Urist again qualified his SSO Mustang in the number one spot with a 7.51 @ 189. In racing to a runner-up finish for the event, Urist solidified his lead in the championship points race.
Got dirt? Brothers Scott and Mike Bracken from Lee’s Summit, MO churn-up plenty of it with their twin Hemi 7,200 Modified tractor puller. After recently switching from roots blowers to ProChargers, the Hemi torque output was increased by more than 25%, and horsepower by more than 45%. Running in the Missouri State Tractor Pulling Association events, the Bracken Brothers are a force to be reckoned with. Equipped with a ProCharger F-3R 139, each Hemi puts out more than 2,000 hp and a dirt-churning 1,638 ft. lbs of torque. At the August 18th event at Oak Grove, MO, the Brackens came in second with a pull of 331 feet. And then, a week later at the El Dorado Springs, KS event., took home the win with a pull of 395.01 feet.
In Outlaw Drag Radial racing August 3 at Milan Dragway in Michigan, Jason Lee recorded the fastest and quickest ¼ mile pass ever for a centrifugal supercharged drag radial car. Lee held on to his wild pony car and rode out a 400’ wheel stand and ran a 7.77 @ 182.77 mph! His 1/8th mile time was a 5.10 @ 145.7 mph. Lee’s 3,380lb Mustang is powered by a 359 cu. in. small block Ford with a set of high ports heads, and a ProCharger F-2 supercharger. Congratulations Jason!
August 24 – 26 at Norwalk, OH, With special consideration from the American Drag Racing League, ProCharger racer Jarod Wenrick made ADRL history by becoming the first non-nitrous powered car to ever qualify for the Pro Nitrous class! Wenrick qualified his ProCharger-equipped 1968 Camaro for the show with an outstanding 4.14 @ 175 mph in the 1/8 mile. Word has it that Wenrick will be completing in the ADRL’s Extreme 10.5 class full-time in 2008.
NSCA Pro Street racer, Jarod Wenrick qualified his bad-to-the-bone 1968 Camaro in the number one spot at the August 11 – 12 event at Thompson Raceway Park. Powered by a ProCharger F-3R 139 enhanced, 565 cu. in. big block Chevy, Wenrick ran in the 6.60s @ more than 215 mph.
In Limited Street action, Mike Modest qualified his ProCharger-equipped Fox Mustang in the number three spot with low 8 second ETs @ 175 mph. Mike appears to be well positioned for yet another championship.
