Up and comer Ric Fleck is one to watch! He's got a 2001 fuel-injected big block Chevy Camaro supercharged with an F-3R ProCharger. To further ensure the coolest charge air temperatures, he's got a 2400 hp air-to-water intercooler hooked up to his F-3R. Ric's 1/8 mile ET is currently in the 4.20's at 170+ MPH and well over 2,000 HP. For 2007, Ric will be competing at a variety of national events, including an Outlaw Automatic Pro-Mod event in late summer at Darlington Dragway, as well as doing exhibition passes at a few Super Chevy shows. Stay tuned.
NMRA Ford Expo 2006, National Trail Raceway, Columbus, Ohio
Super Street Outlaw was a ProCharger love in, with 8 out of 10 racers running ProCharger setups. Rookie AJ Powell got the jump on the #1 qualifier in the first round, which gave him a second round bye and moved him into the semis against Phil Hines. Hines was away first with a .054 to Powell’s .082, but Powell got into the finals with a 7.69, his personal best. Points leader John Urist, after qualifying #2, fired through the pack but had problems getting off the line in the final, giving the win to AJ in an all-ProCharger final.
Drag Radial saw Chad Doyle back in the winners circle, taking the crown after also qualifying number 1 with a 8.17 @ 172 mph blast. Chad ran consistent 8.20’s during eliminations the entire event, even on byes. Half of the top ten qualifiers were ProCharged at Columbus.
In Real Street two time World Ford Challenge Champ Tim Matherly, who has been knocking out consistent runner up NMRA positions all season, hit a home run at National Trail Raceway. After qualifying in, you guessed it, the number two position, Tim faced #5 qualifier and fellow ProCharger racer Jim Breese in another all ProCharger final.
Congrats go out also to the following racers for significant accomplishments in 2006:
Chad Doyle – 2nd place, NMRA Drag Radial
Mauro Vitale – 3rd place in NMRA Drag Radial
Gina Munden – 2nd place in FFW Drag Radial
Jamie Sarver – 3rd place in FFW Drag Radial
Danny Blier – 2nd place in OSCA Super Street
In Real Street action, Tim Matherly clicked off yet another big win in the final NMRA race of the year. In the final round he ran down and passed defending champ Brian Meyer for the win, running a 9.898 to Meyer’s 9.951. With this win, Tim got second place status in Real Street for 2006.
NMCA 5th Annual Hot Rod and Muscle Car Nationals, Atlanta Dragway, Commerce, GA
Eric Laferriere hit a milestone in Atlanta with the first ever centrifugal win in NMCA Vortech Extreme Street, after also qualifying in the number one position with a 8.18 @ 170.19 mph. Congratulations Eric on the win and for setting best ET and top speed of the event!
NDRA
Congratulations to Jason Lee for setting a NOPI new ET record in Pro Street Tire, with a 8.096 blast at NRP Ohio. Jason "Forehead" Lee has been blasting his way into NMRA Drag Radial as well, wowing crowds with fast passes and awesome wheelstands.
Ontario Street Car Association (OSCA)
ProCharger equipped racer Steve Falle sewed up the Canadian OSCA True Street Championship in 2006. Steve’s 1988 small block Ford Fox-body runs an F-1R, which gets him into the 8.20’s. Congratulations on a great season!
Pro Mod Boat Racing
Dawn Singleton has achieved a solid 4th place finish in her first year in Pro Mod boat racing. Dawn, in addition to being the first woman to be licensed to race Pro Mod boats, also went against the grain by fielding the first ever centrifugal blower setup in professional boat drag racing. She definitely shook up the class in her Pro Mod rookie year, making the other racers rethink their power adder combinations. Watch for Dawn in 2007, as she jumps into a Camaro and takes on car racing duty as well!
Will Stevenson and his Generation 3 ’84 Camaro with a carburetor-equipped 509 big block supercharged Chevy engine makes 1300-1400 hp to the tire and runs well into the 7’s. He’s got an F-2 standard rotation ProCharger and a 2400 hp air-to-water intercooler. Will is one fierce competitor ready to tear it up at the track and plans on competing in the Outlaw Drag Radial Class in 2007.
PSCA Pro Street driver Bob Towne is sure to stun any opponent who faces off to his 2002 Camaro. It's outfitted with a 430 big block Chevy and an F-3M reverse rotation ProCharger and makes 2,375 HP. Bob's running in the 6's at over 200 MPH! If you're on the west coast, make sure you look for Bob at the next PSCA event.
In OSCA Super Street, Danny Blier put out a solid runner-up finish in point standings his first ProCharged season. Danny’s 1993 Mustang runs a 440 ci small block Ford motor with a ProCharged F-3. On 10.5 tires, Danny runs right on the edge of six seconds, with a best of 7.0 at 205 MPH.
NMRA 8th Annual World Finals Bowling Green, Kentucky
In Pro 5.0, 3-time class champ Don Walsh, Jr. just missed out on a 4th title, when he lost coolant on the second pass and hit the wall. Thanks to some professional driving, damage was kept to a minimum, but Don had to watch from a spectator seat and collect the runner-up spot in the standings.
OSCA Super Street Class champ Mike Yedgarian converted his 2000 Firebird from nitrous to a ProCharger F-3 set up. The ProChargerd big block GM motor puts power to the ground via a Liberty 5-speed, also getting Mike right on the edge of sixes at 205 MPH. In this photo he faces off with fellow ProCharged, SSO Class runner-up Danny Blier.
You would have thought John Urist, with the SSO title sewed up, would have coasted through the final race. Not a chance. Fireball blazed to a win over a very fast class (top four drivers running at or better than the class record!) to clinch the title spot in style with a nice win over fellow ProCharger racer Phil Hines, running 7.524 to Phil’s 7.533 at 191.40. Congratulations John on a stellar season, and to Phil Hines for taking the runner up spot in SSO point standings!
