View 2005 Race Schedule

Kevin Guthrie hails from Windsor, Colorado and is campaigning this steel bodied Bel-Air in the Western regions. His ride features a self-contained F-3R ProCharger mated to an alcohol snorting 480 cubic inch big block Chevy running on 21 psi of boost. His handiwork has rewarded him handsomely as this 3410 lb classic has turned a 7.90 @ 183 mph in PSCA action. In other Chevy news, Clash of the Titans Record Holder Mark Micke has shown that he is ready to turn things up for the 2005 season by posting 2500+ hp on the dyno with an Intercooled ProCharger F-3R over the winter. Stay tuned for another season of dominating racing in 2005.

At the 15th Annual MM&FF Spring Break Shootout in Orlando on the weekend of March 5 , Crede Young started off his season with a big win in Fun Ford’s Street Renegade class. He came in as the top qualifier in the field turning an 8.09 @ 168 mph, and then marched through eliminations. In the finals, he turned it up a notch to take the win with a tremendous 8.07. Somebody has to be first getting into the UPR 7 Second Club, and it looks like Crede is banging hard on the door with his self-contained F-2 ProCharger. Don Walsh Jr. spent the winter updating his new Pro 5.0 car, and it certainly showed at Orlando. Although Don’s car was built primarily for NMRA competition, this weekend he competed in Fun Ford’s Pro class. This debut went extremely well as his beautiful ProCharger F-3A equipped small block Mustang ran a best of 6.65 @ 208 mph en route to the finals, where Don took runner up.

The NMRA’s Drag Radial class also saw a field loaded with ProCharger equipped racers at Brandenton. Trace Meyer had a great day at the track with his first round winning time of 8.31 proving to be not only the top qualifier, but also the best Drag Radial time of the weekend. Eric Laferriere captured a win in first round with a nice 8.49 @ 163 mph against Chris Tuten, but was off the pace in the second round. In other second round action, Trace Meyer nailed down the top speed for the event at 173 mph. Defending champion Phillip Clemmons came on strong with his ProCharger F-1R, posting the third fastest time of the day at 8.38. In the third round, Trace had the better time and speed of 8.47 @ 168 mph, but his rival cut an amazing 0.003 light that made up the difference on a much slower 8.53 @166 mph. Tough way for Trace to end the day, but keep your eye on Trace and Phil this year. They’re both going to be very tough to beat with their self-contained F-1R ProCharger equipped Mustangs.

They say appearances can be deceiving. Bob Romano should certainly get an award for stealth with his 1985 Oldsmobile. Stuffed within the stock-looking, two tone confines of this car is a 355 cubic inch Chevy engine mated to a turbo 400 tranny and Ford rear end. Bob is using an air-to-air Intercooler with a D-1 ProCharger to produce 16 psi of boost at the manifold. If you are in the Northeast, be on the lookout for this 442. She is making 650 horsepower and has turned a 10.16 in the quarter mile. Definitely not your Dad’s Oldsmobile!

The following weekend brought the NMRA Nationals in Bradenton, FL, and Don Walsh, Jr was once again in the headlines as he made the short trip south from Orlando. In first round eliminations at Bradenton, Walsh definitely brought his "A" game as the defending champion. He enjoyed a bye but still ripped an astounding 6.78, besting the field by over a tenth of a second. In the second round, he proved the consistency of his ProCharger F-3A Reverse equipped Mustang by laying down another 6.78. He met Joe Morgan in the final round and put him on the trailer with an even faster 6.75 ET to take the win.

In Outlaw 10.5 action at Bradenton, Jim Briante took out Eric Pezzuti in the first round with a solid 7.23 @ 193 mph. Then he backed it up with an even faster 7.21 @ 193 mph against Bryan Markewics to advance to the third round. He kept his cool when he lined up with the venerable Billy Glidden and cut a 0.04 light against Billy’s 0.069. Briante continued strong and beat the Glidden team with his fastest run of the day at 7.20 @ 195 mph. The consistency of Jim’s F-3 reverse rotation ProCharger equipped car is really phenomenal with a mere 28 thousandths of a second separating all of his runs! Over in Super Street Outlaw class, first round action saw two ProCharger equipped teams taking the win. Michael Young showed up with an F-3R self-contained ProCharger and turned in an 8.05 @ 179 mph against Billy Laskowski. Phil Hines also took the win in the first round with his Intercooled D-3R ProCharger against Samuel Vincent. However, both of these racers would fall in later rounds.

Two ProCharger equipped cars went heads up in the first round of Real Street at Bradenton. It was a great race with defending champion Tim Matherly facing off against Jim Breese. Unfortunately, only one can win and this day belonged to Tim. His second round against Jason Hoots was decided quickly when he pulled a 0.043 second hole-shot at the tree. This ensured a trip to the finals with his non-intercooled P1SC-2 ProCharger, where Matherly took the win against Robin Lawrence. Congratulations to Tim, Jim and Donnie for an industry leading 3 wins at Bradenton. In EFI Renegade, Kurt Gallant showed up ready to rumble with an F-1R self-contained ProCharger as he logged a first round win against Zoop Zellonis. However, he tripped the red light in the second round ending what looked to be a promising day. In Modular Muscle class, Joseph Decaria ran strong for 3 rounds and finished with a best of 10.41 @ 129 mph in his ProCharger equipped Cobra.
