View 2005 Race Schedule

Hardcore Racing put the first supercharged LS1 in the 8’s, the first supercharged LS1 in the 7's and now their single power-adder GTO ran a solid 6.95 ET @ 202.65 MPH at the 13th Annual World Street Nationals in Orlando Florida. Hardcore owner Ronnie Duke purchased the 2005 GTO with the intent to crack the six-second barrier, and knew that installing a ProCharger supercharger would help them do it. With Jason McNeil in the drivers’ seat, the car ran a 7.10 @ 194 in August, and then followed it up with the even better 6.95 ET in Orlando.

Once again, a Fun Ford Weekend event was cut short by rain. This time it was the early August race at Bristol. However, before Mother Nature took away the fun in this Ford weekend, Phil Clemmons took the win in the finals for the Richmond rain delay from late June. During the June race, he was top qualifier but had to bring it to Bristol to seal the deal. Now he has once again aced the top qualifier position for Drag Radial and will take it to Topeka to finish the race. His qualifying time was an outstanding 8.191 @ 174 mph which is better than the current FFW record of 8.199 set back in May of 2004. His F-1R ProCharger pushed him more than a 1/10th faster than the #2 qualifier and almost 2-1/2 tenths faster than our competitor’s centrifugal who came in a distant third during qualifying.

Fun Ford Weekend moved from the Bristol rainout to New England Dragway in late August hoping for some better weather. While the weather was still damp, they were able to complete the entire race. Even under the less than ideal conditions, Jim Briante was able to put the power to the ground. On Saturday, he earned the honor of #1 Qualifier in the ProCharger Street Outlaw class. During an incredibly exciting final race, he took home the top spot in a pass featuring equal times of 7.46. His F-3 Reverse made the difference though when it got Jim’s competitor with a higher speed of more than 195 mph at the big end of the track.

There is just no stopping Dan Schoneck this year. At FFW’s Bristol rainout, he took #1 qualifier with a blistering 7.92 run at 180 mph. In Street Renegade, Dan’s F-2 Reverse ProCharger equipped car was the only 7 second run in the books for this difficult weekend. Moving to Eddyville Raceway, he worked the 1/8 mile with his usual finesse by recording a 5.01 @ 147 mph and setting a new track record. In the finals he came up against a BBC with 2 stage nitrous and twin Dominators. Even this wasn’t enough to stop Dan as he took it by more than a tenth. Its important to point out he did this in FFW trim using just 28X10.5’s and no wheelie bars while everyone else was on the big tires. Look out Topeka!

ProCharger leads in NMRA points race
New ProCharger Personal Watercraft
Tim Matherly
Trace Meyer
Don Walsh Jr.

Mark McCabe campaigns this beautiful 66 Chevelle in the NMCA’s True Street Class. Featuring a self-contained F-2 ProCharger coupled with an air-to-air intercooler, his 433 cubic inch big block Chevy ensures this 3800 pound car will fly. As the class implies, this car is truly an amazingly fast and reliable street machine. While he enjoys campaigning the car, Mark admits he still likes to take it out on Sunday for a cruise.

The NMRA points race is proving to be very exciting after 7 of 9 races. Currently, 2 time and current champion Don Walsh Jr. holds a commanding lead for the elite Pro 5.0 class with a 655 point margin over second place. For Outlaw 10.5, Jim Briante is out front in this hotly contested division. Kurt Gallant who switched from nitrous to ProCharger for 2005 is holding on to the top spot in Renegade. Phil Clemmons has a nice lead to be #1 in the popular Drag Radial and rounding out with Real Street, current champion Tim Matherly is in second but making his move to repeat for 2005. Moving over to the NMCA, Mike Dezotell is currently in the #2 spot for Street Race and currently holds both the ET and MPH record for the class in 2005. Mike Modeste is also making his move in the NSCA for Limited Street. While currently in second, he is breathing down the neck of the #1 spot with a margin of only 24 points separating them. This championship will probably go down to the last race of the season.

ATI ProCharger has just started production on its new Intercooled System for Personal Watercraft. To prove the effectiveness of its technology, an ATI staff engineer entered a stock 3-seat PWC equipped with a self-contained ProCharger into the unlimited class of Powerboat Magazine’s Shooter’s Shootout Nationals at Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri. After filling up with pump gas, this stock, family oriented PWC took runner up in a field of 17 highly modified craft. The only vehicle capable of a slightly faster speed featured a $20,000 purpose built engine using race fuel and a high performance through-the-transom exhaust.

Coming off his recent two-in-a-row championships at World Ford Challenge, 2004 NMRA Real Street Champion Tim Matherly continued his winning ways in the New Jersey race. Using a P-1SC-2 ProCharger, he plowed through the field to see the finals on Sunday. During the thrilling last race of the day, Tim took the lead from the beginning and never looked back on a very close race to the finish. His winning time came in at 9.75 @ 138 against the second place time of 9.78 for the best Real Street clash of the day.

Drag Radial is always a hotly contested event in the NMRA. The ATCO race was no exception as a field of 20 cars descended upon New Jersey. During qualifications, Trace Meyer got everyone’s attention with an 8.33 at almost 170 mph to nail down the top spot. Trace’s run was just 3/100ths shy of his own record set in Bradenton. Reigning NMRA champion, Phil Clemmons brought his ProCharger to the gunfight and turned in the second best time with an 8.43. The rest of the field lagged more than 3 tenths behind Trace after qualifications. In the third round of eliminations, Phil put Dave Hopper on the trailer with an NMRA record shattering 171.55 mph pass. Not surprisingly, it was Phil and Trace left standing in the all ProCharger finals. Trace took home the gold, Phil had a new record and ProCharger left the rest of the field nursing their wounds from its potent 1-2 punch. The EFI Renegade class was also highlighted by Jay Mingolelli’s ProCharged GT as it became the first 4-valve modular to make an 8-second pass in EFI Renegade history, with a run of 8.85 ET @ 152 mph.

The NMRA race at Atco Raceway turned out to be a real cooker with enough heat and humidity to try anyone’s soul. Don Walsh Jr. and crew showed just how tough they are when they ran away with the top qualifier spot with a 6.80 despite the soup like air and high heat. The obvious favorite for a win, Don had an ignition wire go bad on the launch in first round eliminations that cost him the race. Despite the electrical gremlin, Don still holds a commanding lead in his quest for a "trifecta" Pro 5.0 championship.

ATI ProCharger is a big supporter and sponsor of the Super Chevy Show series. Pictured here is the race rig at Bandimere Raceway in Denver, Colorado. Kevin Guthrie came over from Windsor, CO. to compete with his ’62 Belair featuring an F-3R ProCharger. His 480 cubic inch big block is fueled with alcohol being pushed by 21 psi of boost. While Kevin normally competes in the PSCA, he made a good showing in Top Sportsman but was off his normal pace of 7.9 sec et’s in this 3400 lb car.
