Project Nova, a collaboration between ProCharger
and Super Chevy magazine,
runs at the Super Chevy event in Las Vegas in late 2003. This 1969 Nova's
motor is a GMPP crate big block de-stroked to 427 cid, powered by an
Intercooled ProCharger F-2 producing 28 psi. The car weighs in at 3400 lbs,
is carbureted, and runs 91 octane fuel. To fully showcase the performance
gains delivered by an Intercooled ProCharger system running pump gas, the
car runs both naturally aspirated and ProCharged exhibition passes at Las
Vegas. After running a 12.29 ET @ 111 mph naturally aspirated, the Nova
runs an 8.24 @ 166 mph only hours later with the ProCharger installed, close
to the car’s previous best of 8.18 @ 170. This represents an improvement
of
over 4 seconds and 55 mph simply by adding the Intercooled ProCharger, and
makes this Nova the fastest
pump gas car in the country.
Over the winter, James Chen competes in Sport
Compact Car magazine's Ultimate Street Car Challenge 3 with a ProCharged 350Z.
Chen’s ProCharged beauty wins three tests and places second in 3 others,
earning him enough points to prevail against a variety of exotic sports cars.
This USCC victory is Chen's second in the past 3 years. In related 350Z racing
news, Randy Kent's ProCharged 350Z places at the top of the Sport Z Shootout
held in Southern California in December. The car is driven cross-country from
Kansas City to the Shootout on short notice, where it is pitted against two
other supercharged Z's. This otherwise stock Z, with an HO Intercooled ProCharger
system running 7 psi, wins both the autocross and the dyno competition, and
posts top speed in the quarter with 107.78 mph.
In NMRA competition in Bradenton, Jim Blair Stuns the Street
Outlaw Competition, running a 7.55 et with his ‘95 Cobra-R in pre-race
testing. Running strong through the entire weekend, Blair qualifies #1 and
runs a 7.63 @ 179 mph with his intercooled, F-3R equipped small block in the
finals, earning the win over Sam Vincent’s Nitrous fed big cubic inch
big block. Also putting up strong numbers with a ProCharger in Outlaw are
John Urist (2003 Street Outlaw Champ), Mike "Punk" Trimandilis,
Billy Laskowsky and Mauro Vitale, all of whom qualified in the top half of
the 20 car field, powered by ProCharger D-3R's and F-3R's.

In early season FFW Competition at Orlando Speedworld Dragway,
Travis Franklin, after struggling with first race gremlins and qualifying
at the bottom of the pack, gets a handle on things with his F-3M powered 2000
Mustang in eliminations and manages to find his way to the finals in the tough
Street Outlaw class to face Bill Glidden’s lightweight nitrous entry.
In Street Renegade, Aaron Archer brings out his mod motored ‘03 Cobra
look-alike and runs an early shutoff 8.86 in qualifying, getting past the
first two rounds but unable to make the call for the third round of eliminations.
Joe Robinson and Dan Schoneck also enter the class in borrowed cars to get
points for the event, as their regular rides are not yet ready for competition.
In Modular Muscle bracket racing, Florida’s Joe DeCaria
is victorious in the finals with a 10.619 on a 10.60 dial-in, and also uses
the tree to win. DeCaria's car is an '01 Cobra running an Intercooled F-1
ProCharger, and has run a best of 9.75 @ 139 mph to date. Overall, ProCharged
racers win 3 heads-up classes at Bradenton, as well as the Modular Muscle
bracket class, in an outstanding start to the season. With Phil Pickering's
retooled Pro 5.0 car debuting in the near future, and the F-2 ProCharger proving
to be very popular in Fun Ford's Street Renegade class, it appears that the
2004 season will be even more dominant for ProCharged racers than the 5 national
championships and 10 national records captured in 2003.
In Real Street class at Bradenton, Tim Matherly reached
two big milestones in his ‘01 Bullitt, scoring the first ever Real Street
victory with a mod-motor powered entry and being the first Real Street racer
to get a mod-motor into the 9 second zone. Tim runs consistent 9.80's through
the weekend with his non-intercooled P-1SC-2 equipped 2-valve 4.6. In other
ProCharged action, 2003 NMRA rookie of the year Phillip Clemmons qualifies
his newly flamed ‘88 Mustang GT #1, running an 8.55 @ 166 mph with his
intercooled F-1R and grabs his first NMRA Drag Radial victory, setting the
E.T and MPH records in the process.
