Known for years as the biggest heads up "street legal" event, the 2003 World Street Finals lived up to it's billing, with racers traveling from all over the country to claim the title of the worlds fastest. In Outlaw 10.5 competition 69 cars vied for a spot in the 32 car field. Qualiying in the #5 position with a 7.32 @ 192 mph was Mark Micke in his methanol burning, F-3R equipped '68 Camaro. Mark advanced through eliminations all of the way to the semi-finals where a slippery track got the best of him. Other ProCharged racers who made the tough 32 car field were Ray Sanchez and Jim Blair. Look for all to return in 2004 for another shot at the World Street Finals title.
In "big tire" action at Orlando, 56 cars showed up to do battle. On top of the 32 car qualified field was Tony Gillig who captured the #1 spot with a 6.67 @ 212 mph in the ASSC Racing '02 Mustang. Racing against the fastest cars in the country, Gillig took the ProCharged ASSC built small block through eliminations to face "street legal" drag racing legend Tony Christian who was behind the wheel of Pat Musi's Nitrous equipped 707 cubic inch '69 Camaro. Gillig would emerge the victor, running a 6.73 @ 211 mph to get to the other end ahead of Christian's 6.84 @ 210 mph.
In a climactic finale to a tough season of racing, Joel Greathouse captures the PRO Super Street championship and wins the final event of the year. Joel qualified strong, running a 7.45 @ 191 mph and a best of 7.33 @ 193 mph during eliminations. Qualifying in the #3 position was fellow ProCharged racer Ray Sanchez in what would be the last race for him in his '67 Camaro. In eliminations, Ray ran his best ever 7.42 @ 190 mph. Though it would be Joel Greathouse who would get the win, Ray Sanchez was the hero of the weekend as he enabled Joel Greathouse to secure the championship by knocking out rival Kenny Bennett in the semi-finals. In doing so Ray advanced to face Joel in an all ProCharger PRO Super Street final.
