June
18–20, 2004
Kansas City International Raceway
Despite a questionable
weather forecast, this event featured an outstanding
weekend of racing as well as a fair amount of sunshine.
ProCharged racers once again dominated the event, taking
wins in Pro 5.0, Super Street Outlaw, and Drag Radial
classes.
In Pro 5.0, the new team of Don Walsh and Phil Pickering
has Walsh back on top of this class, as Donnie qualified
#1 for the second race in a row, after debuting the
car for the ’04 season just two weeks ago at Maple
Grove. Doug Mangrum took a break from Fun Ford competition
this weekend and also ran well despite having to make
several changes for the NMRA spec, and qualified in
the 6’s at over 200 mph. Donnie went on to take
the win in Kansas City, after transmission problems
limited him to runner-up in Maple Grove. Walsh ran a
best of 6.69 ET this weekend with an Intercooled ProCharger
F-3A supplying the power to Phil Pickering’s awesome
blue Mustang.
In Super Street Outlaw action, Jim Blair and local racer
Don Shobe qualified #1 and #2, with Blair running a
7.68 ET, very close to his current record. Overall,
5 of the top 8 qualifiers in SSO were ProCharged and
running in the 7’s, including Mauro Vitale, John
Urist and Steve Topletz. In the finals, it was all ProCharger,
with Urist posting a 7.81 to take the win over Vitale's
7.88 in this very strong and balanced class. Congratulations
to this outstanding group of racers for a very strong
performance this weekend.

Drag Radial competition was also dominated by ProCharged
racers, with four of the top six qualifiers powered
by Intercoooled ProCharger F-1R’s, and also featuring
an all-ProCharger final round. Rob Corujo, Phil Clemmons
and Trace Meyer qualified #1, #2, and #3, while local
racer Jeremy Jensen qualified #6. In the finals, Clemmons
took the win over Corujo while also expanding his championship
points lead. Again, congratulations to this outstanding
group of Drag Radial racers.
In other action, Tim Matherly, current Real Street championship
points leader, suffered mechanical problems in the semi-finals,
but retains a sizable lead in the points race. Mike
Post and Donna Sydor also ran well in EFI Renegade.
With this very successful weekend in Kansas City, the
2004 season is on track to match or exceed last year’s
record-breaking championship total for ProCharged racers.
Overall, after winning the NMRA Pro 5.0 Championship
last year, in addition to 4 championships with other
organizations, ProCharged racers currently hold the
points lead in 3 NMRA classes in 2004. In Super Street
Outlaw, Jim Blair has continued his phenomenal performance
of the past few seasons, and has run a best of 7.63
@ 184 mph this year. Jim also has a solid points lead,
and owns the ET record in NMRA SSO. Phillip Clemmons
not only has top points in Drag Radial class with his
dominating performance, he also owns both ends of the
record book, with top ET and mph. Phil has run a best
of 8.34 ET @ 168 with his Intercooled ProCharger F-1R.
In NMRA Real Street action, Tim Matherly has been equally
spectacular, winning the first four NMRA races, and
holds the points lead with a modular motor combo, powered
by a ProCharger P-1SC-2. Tim also recently won the Real
Street championship at Word Ford Challenge 7 in St.
Louis, and has run a best of 9.62 @ 141 mph.
In other NMRA action, Billy Laskowsky recently shattered
the mph record in Super Street Outlaw, and owns the
record of 188 mph (with a best ET of 7.78). Other top
ProCharged racers running the NMRA series but not competing
in Kansas City include Mike Trimandilis and Todd Fluman
in SSO class; Bob McDonald in Drag Radial; Jeremy Martorella
in EFI Renegade; Justin Burcham and Mike Dezotell in
Real Street; and Aaron Archer and Joseph DeCaria in
Modular Muscle.
ProCharged Ford racers also hold records in NSCA and
Fun Ford competition, and are in a position to take
championships in these sanctioning bodies as well.
